Louis Moinet Chronograph Skeleton Replica Watch
However, at that 2012 press conference, that's exactly what Jean-Marie Schaller informed the viewing community that would happen. People often use the phrase "rewrite history" to describe a memorable event, but it is very rare that they mean it in the literal sense.
So much so that Louis Moinet goes so far as to call the Memories the first chronograph replica watch in replica watches history, suggesting that the chronograph itself is the watch's primary function and that the indication of the time is an added benefit. Fast forward three years and the team of Louis Moinet's modern incarnation is still celebrating this momentous discovery, and now they have their own watch to celebrate the occasion. With the name Chronograph Memories, the focus - as you might have guessed - is entirely on the chronograph.Mr. Schaller explains this feeling much more eloquently than I can say; "We couldn't draw inspiration from what had happened before; everyone else assumed that the chronograph was an added complication on top of the timekeeping function. Our starting point was the opposite: to wipe out the past and make the chronograph the heart of our design; central component to which we then added a time function, instead of the other way around. "
This allows the piece to be wound in both directions with minimal movement, optimizing every movement of the rotor, recovering its energy, and allowing the movement to be wound more effectively. In total, the movement consists of 302 parts, of which more than sixty are designed and manufactured specifically for the chronograph. With a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and 48 hours of backup power, the LM54 also features something Louis Moinet calls "Energy Plus"; an automatic spring pawl rewinding system with a "crab claw" design.
Presented in an impressive 46 mm case, available in rose gold or white gold, in three limited editions of just 60 pieces, there is no doubt that the beautifully finished dial of the Chronograph Memories makes a statement on the wrist. What I really like, however, is the fact that Louis Moinet has resisted the urge to recreate history and has instead focused on honoring his namesake's incredible accomplishments in his own modern style.
As you can see from the photos, the whole chronograph function has shifted to the dial, but make no mistake; this is not just a traditional skeletonized timepiece. The caliber LM54, built for Louis Moinet by their timepiece manufacturer Concept, has been specially designed so that the traditional operation of the automatic mechanism is hidden on the back of the timepiece, below the dial, leaving only the chronograph mechanism visible on the dial. It's a new idea for sure, and now that I've seen the Louis Moinet skeleton copy watch in person, I have to say I really appreciate it.
